Childhood Throwback: Putt-Putt Joins the Parade

Boy oh boy, this game. Boy did I ever freak out when I saw it as a new release on Steam. This game took over my childhood when I was at my grandparents – mainly because it was one of the few games they actually had, but still.

In this game you play as Putt-Putt and you have a basic objective – you want to join the Car Town Parade! Unfortunately, to join the Parade you need to get a car wash, get a balloon, and find a pet. You have neither a balloon or a pet. Oh well, time to get them!

To get your balloon you just need to head on over to the movie theater and find a missing child. For the dog, you need to find a bone (I’ll get to this in a bit) and then find the dog scared and alone in a cave. For the car wash, you need to get three coins (you are broke at first) and then use all the correct things to get all nice and clean. One thing that’s started bugging me on this with replaying it now that I’m older is that Putt-Putt says “Boy, I’ve never had a car wash before!” Ewww….

Now, how do you get coins? Simple! You can either deliver groceries or mow the lawn. Yes, mow the lawn. The bone I mentioned earlier is found by mowing a lawn – pretty much always the first lawn you mow will have it. The firetruck who tells you what you need will also tell you where needs mowing first.

Besides these direct objective there’s other things you can do. While you only need to do a combination of mowing lawns or delivering groceries to get coins, you can go above and beyond! Should you not like the shiny original purple of Putt-Putt you can get some coins to head over and get a new paint job! Yay!

Putt-Putt Joins the Parade will always hold a special place in my heart even if it is incredibly simplistic. It’s kinda funny that when this got released on Steam I had actually been thinking about it recently…

Should you want to take part in this amazing lawn mower and paint job action, you can get Putt-Putt Joins the Parade on Steam for $6.99. Additionally, a host of other Putt-Putt games (and other Humongous Entertainment games in general) are available on Steam from prices ranging between $4.99 and $6.99 USD.
